Buddhism is a very deep philosophical religion. He is far more than just a philosophy, for he is - as the Buddha pointed out very clearly - a doctrine of redemption:

Just as the sea has only one taste, the salt, so also has this theory .. . just a taste: that of redemption.

The philosophy of Arthur Schopenhauer is in essence a doctrine of redemption, and as the Buddha was Schopenhauer (more than any other major Western philosopher) from the suffering of this world from. For that reason alone there are an amazing correspondence between Schopenhauer's philosophy and Buddhism. Schopenhauer was aware, as he described himself and his followers as Buddhists .
