Buddhism and Schopenhauer: Rebirth
.
Among the hardest-to-understand parts of his teachings of Buddhism is one of rebirth, because Buddhism is not a "soul" in the sense of other religions know. Since it is of particular interest when the Milindapanha , a Buddhist scripture from the 2nd Jh.vuZtr., This difficult problem with examples is explained. The conference deals with issues that the Greek King Menander, who ruled in the north-western India, turned on the Buddhist monk Nagasena.
asks the king, who is called in Scripture Milinda, the Nagasena point:
If one is born again, is it the same (who died) or is it someone else?
Nagasena said
neither the same nor different. Just as the infant is not the same as the adults, ... as the fresh milk is not identical with the thick milk, so the deceased is not the same as the re-born, and yet together a chain of dharmas (factors of being) in unbroken continuity to each other.
asked Elsewhere, the King
How can the rebirth take place without something (a soul) moves across
Answer:
Exactly as you light a candle to another, or like a verse that was recited by a teacher who is nachgesprochen by the students.
The above quotations (from the Path to Enlightenment, trans. And ed. Helmuth von Glasenapp) are of course no definitive answers but to stimulate further reflection. Ultimately, however, the answer is probably only in spiritual ways, ie inside the meditation to be found.
After Arthur Schopenhauer rebirth and time again is the manifestation of the border (metaphysical) "will", which comes in new existences always expressed. This process is not understood as "souls" (metempsychosis), but in the sense of a permanent renewal of all existence (palingenesis).
does the rest:
the will to live, life is certain. (Schopenhauer)

Eyelid Pitosis Exercises
Buddhism knowledge rather than faith
.
Yesterday I read another saying of the Buddha, the most likely to be unique in the history of religion in its own way:
raised you not for what you have heard, by the mere hearsay, after what has been passed on from one to another, according to collections of sacred traditions, based on assumptions and ertüftelten reasons, not by external considerations, not by deep-rooted beliefs, not after what looks like it might be appropriate, and not in the words of a revered master - but what you yourself as well have known or bad, to take or give up.
(Anguttara Nikaya 3,65,8; Translator H. von Glasenapp)
Although it is also not without faith in Buddhism, but this is where the meaning of "believe" and trust, is not to compare it with "faith" in the Christian sense. Rather, it is in Buddhism, as the above quote shows on their own knowledge. Already it appears that Buddhism is not merely a religion of faith, but a philosophical religion. Also, in my opinion one of the reasons why Arthur Schopenhauer was the Buddhism over all other religions to be preferred.

Arthur Schopenhauer and the Indian religions
Arthur Schopenhauer was the first major Western philosopher of modern times, who had dealt inteniv with religions and philosophies of India. He particularly appreciated the ancient Indian Upanishads and - if she has time available in translations were - the writings of Buddhism. With joy he could find, how this ancient Indian wisdom teachings of his philosophy are identical. More, the Upanishads felt Schopenhauer as the most important and most sublime reading that is possible in the world: it is the consolation of my life and my death will be his.
also to Buddhism Arthur Schopenhauer was a very close relationship, so he called himself and his followers Buddhists .
So it was especially Schopenhauer's credit that by the end of the 19th Century, Buddhism in the German educated middle class and was known far beyond.
Still can Schopenhauer's philosophy contribute significantly to a better understanding of the wisdom teachings that had evolved for thousands of years in India. Despite fundamentally different intellectual traditions has been created by Arthur Schopenhauer, a cultural bridge between East and West. In this sense, the working group "Schopenhauer and Buddhism" and "Arthur - Schopenhauer - Study Group" set up this blog. We hope you will consider participating, to which we invite all interested people to join.
